I erase the pencil drawing with a kneaded eraser until I can barely see the pencil lines. I've left them much darker than usual in the next series of scans.

I begin the painting using thin, wet washes. I usually painting just a couple leaves. First, I paint the leaves with clear water. I then wait a minute or two until the water sheen is gone and then I apply a thin wash.
