A sampling of media and works

I am a self-taught artist specializing in botanical art and illustrations. I have an education and extensive background in natural history and the biological sciences. I am published both as an illustrator and a scientific author. My illustrations are published in educational and museum exhibits; scientific journals; newsletters; books; and other publications. 

Most of my botanical paintings are completed in watercolor, some are completed in oil. I produce illustrations in many mediums including: gouache, oil, pen & ink, watercolor, and the digital mediums.

During this one or two day workshop, students focus on realistic sketching and representation of plants in an outdoor setting (weather permitting). Topics covered are: seeing accurately, sketching techniques, tonal values and reflected light, foreshortening, perspective, negative space, and basic plant morphology. This class is recommended for beginner to intermediate students.
